This vase was created by Eietsu Shirase, the third-generation potter of Otaru Kiln, inspired by earthenware from Japan’s Jomon period, which dates back approximately 16,000 years.
Otaru Kiln came to an end in 2007 after 107 years of history due to a lack of successors at Shirase Touen, the oldest pottery in Hokkaido. In 2025, Shintaro, the fifth-generation successor, revived Otaru Kiln.
This vase is a rare piece produced before the kiln’s closure in 2007.
