There are certain items which you use that bring joy to your everyday life. There are also certain items which bring you joy just by looking at them. This tetsubin does both.

Bizenyaki items can be found in department stores, flea markets, and resale shops but finding plates is usually pretty hard so when I found these at KinsenTokyo I was very happy. I have one plate that I got myself many years ago when I lived in Japan, but wanted others to present my backyard Izakaya food on. These are perfect.

The entire Kamei Miraku family: the modern-day founder, XIII and the famous XIV, XV and now XVI are at the top of the Takatori gama. It is rare to find any of their works for an affordable price. Kazuki-san is an excellent curator, an excellent communicator. She represents KinsenTOKYO very well and only adds to the esteem in which they are held.

It is lovely, contrasting soft glaze, mineral roughness and a pleasantly tactile shape. A cup worth cherishing!

It is very hard to find Bizenyaki plates and bowls. I’ve looked in many Japan department stores, and most of them just have cups, vases, and teapots. I found great items and they were packed like going into outer space or they could go around the world a few times without getting any breakage! I am thankful to Kazuki-san for his great customer service. I definitely want to shop here again. I have asked Kazuki-san to be on the lookout for an Edo period copper chirori to go with a vintage kandouko that I have recently purchased. He is such a nice person.

I love Kasama and Mashiko and this wide open, thin-walled cup is truly special. It also has that typical playful texture. Kasama and Mashiko sencha cups are hard to find!
