Seiryu Kiln is a kiln of Hirashimizu ware, a traditional pottery from Yamagata Prefecture.
At its peak, Hirashimizu ware had more than 30 kilns, but today only two remain.
At Seiryu Kiln, the production process begins with finely crushing iron-rich raw clay gathered from the mountains, followed by a resting period before the clay is shaped by hand.

This cup is one of Seiryu Kiln’s representative works, titled “Zansetsu” (“Lingering Snow”), inspired by mountains during the spring thaw.
The gentle white surface is created by iron naturally emerging through the clay and glaze, giving the piece its soft and quietly expressive appearance.
