Tsugaru Kanayama ware, from Aomori Prefecture, is crafted using the traditional yakishime technique, in which pottery is fired slowly at a high temperature of 1,300°C without the use of glaze. Depending on the firing conditions, the surface reveals a variety of rich textures and tones, resulting in deeply expressive pottery.
