This wooden bowl is crafted using the rare Senmaki technique from Hida Takayama (Gifu prefecture) , in which thin strips of wood—often paulownia—are wound hundreds of times and built up in layers. The name “Senmaki,” meaning “a thousand windings,” reflects this process.
Senmaki is no longer produced today due to the absence of successors, making existing pieces increasingly rare.
