About the Artist:
Born in Nagoya in the 1930s, Matasiro Isogai first learned the traditional techniques of crafting baskets and sieves for agricultural and fishing use.
He later studied the making of artistic flower baskets in Kyoto and bamboo tableware techniques in Kyushu.
At the age of 22, he moved to Tokyo and established the “Kago Take Kogeisho” workshop in Koiwa, Edogawa.
Over many years, he produced bamboo serving vessels for some of Japan’s finest traditional restaurants, including Kanetanaka.
