Beautiful 1940s Wajima-Nuri Jubako – Vintage Japanese Lacquered Stacked Box
This is a stunning example of a traditional Jubako (stacked box), crafted using the high-end Wajima-nuri lacquerware technique.
Unlike many modern jubako made from synthetic resin, this piece is made with natural Urushi lacquer and carefully finished by skilled artisans through a time-intensive process.
Jubako are used especially during New Year’s in Japan to serve Osechi Ryori, a celebratory multi-dish meal. The stacked design symbolizes the wish to "pile up happiness and good fortune" for the coming year.
