About Bizen Pottery:
Bizen-yaki, produced in Okayama Prefecture, is one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions. Created using the yakishime method, the clay is left unglazed and fired at high temperatures using red pine wood. This process brings out natural reddish-brown hues and surface variations. Known for its high iron content, Bizen clay helps retain heat or coolness, making it both beautiful and functional. It embodies the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi—embracing subtlety and inner beauty.
