1630ml / Cast Iron Kettle by Hojudo | Copper Lid Tetsubin

$375.00

We have run out of stock for this item.

Hojudo is a historic workshop that traces its origins to 1604, when its first-generation founder, Kiheiji, was patronized as an official caster by Mogami Yoshiaki, the lord of Yamagata Castle.

This is an iron kettle (tetsubin) for boiling water, not a kyusu teapot for brewing tea. The interior is uncoated, allowing a small amount of iron to naturally leach into the water.

Tetsubin has a 400-year history rooted in the Japanese Tea Ceremony and is valued worldwide for its elegant craftsmanship and its ability to enhance the flavor of water—making tea taste richer, milder, and smoother. It also releases trace amounts of iron into the water, offering health benefits, especially for those with low iron levels.

Unlike mass-produced kettles made of stainless steel or copper, each Tetsubin is a sustainable, heirloom-quality item crafted by skilled artisans. With proper care, it can be passed down through generations.
