Very lightweight wooden bowls finished in a deep dark green.
The gold decoration is created using the chinkin technique, in which the design is carefully carved and inlaid with gold.
Chinkin : designs are carved into the lacquer surface, and gold powder is applied into the grooves.
This technique is highly detailed and often used for more refined and elegant works.
Although this bowl dates from the 1940-50s, it has been kept in exceptionally good condition.

All OWAN BOWLS WE OFFER are genuine, heirloom-grade Japanese lacquerware.
They are made from natural wood, finished with 100% natural Urushi lacquer, and crafted entirely by hand in Japan, following traditional methods. (Plastic sinks in water — real wood floats)
Especially with antique lacquerware, the refinement of craftsmanship and the timeless beauty of form are truly exceptional — qualities that cannot be replicated by modern industrial substitutes.
