A vase with magnificent color by Takeichi Kawai (1908–1989).
Takeichi Kawai was the nephew and foremost disciple of Kanjiro Kawai, one of Japan’s most celebrated ceramic artists. As Kanjiro had no son, he passed on many of his techniques directly to Takeichi. Their collaboration continued for more than forty years, until Kanjiro’s death in 1966.
This distinctive blue glaze also inherits Kanjiro’s closely guarded original formula.
H 21.5 cm x W 14 cm / 1810g
Very good condition ★★★★☆
No chips, No cracks
* The original wooden box bears Takeichi’s signature; however, the vase itself is unsigned. This reflects Kanjiro’s mingei philosophy (the Japanese folk craft movement), which held that beauty resides in the work of anonymous craftsmen and is not created only by celebrated individual artists.
