This Bizen ware bottle was fired in a wood-burning kiln without the use of any glaze. The natural character of the clay appears directly on the surface, with kiln effects created by flame and ash spreading across the entire body. The gradual transition in color from olive-tinged brown to deeper earthy brown results from the vessel’s placement in the kiln and variations in temperature during firing, and cannot be intentionally reproduced.
