Bizen Ware Sake Bottle with Hidasuki Markings - Japanese Wood-fired Pottery

$75.00

Wood-fired Bizen Sake bottle.
This bottle features Hidasuki—one of Bizen ware’s most iconic firing effects.
The technique involves wrapping the piece in straw before placing it in a climbing kiln.
During firing, the straw’s chemical components react with the clay, leaving reddish-orange streaks across the surface—like trails of flame.
Even with the same clay and form, no two pieces ever turn out alike, as their final appearance is shaped by their exact placement and exposure within the kiln.

H 11.2 cm x W 8.5 cm / 221 g
Holds 265 ml.
Good condition ★★★☆☆
No chips, No cracks.
* Slightly small than regular Bizen bottle.

Bizen ware is one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions, created through high-temperature firing using only clay and fire, without any glaze. Bizen ware is born from a mystical world of fire, where each piece emerges with a unique character shaped by flame, ash, and time.
At the heart of its beauty lies the long wood-fired kiln process, which produces natural surface markings that are never the same twice.
Rather than ornate decoration, Bizen embraces a quiet, understated aesthetic—yet each work is full of presence.
It is also known as one of the most durable types of pottery.
