HIROSHI SAOTOME
Born in Kashiwa City, Chiba in 1969, he opened his studio in Zoshigaya, Tokyo in 2005.
Since then, he has been presenting his works mainly in solo exhibitions. With a free conception that is not bound by conventional frameworks,
He explores the possibilities of materials while confronting the clay. He takes time to finish each piece by hand.
In 2019, he moved to Inadani, Shinshu, where he creates in a lifestyle close to the richness of nature.

Most of his works are created using the hand-build method called Tama-Zukuri. The pieces are formed by kneading them all at once, and when they are just the right hardness, they are shaved and molded like sculptures. The distinctive edges are inspired by the appearance of flowers and grasses that live robustly in the cracks of concrete and asphalt.
