Suruga Bamboo Sen-Suji-Zaiku is a craft with a history of over 400 years.
There are many places in Japan where bamboo products are produced, but the Suruga bamboo craft differs from all of them in the way it is made.
Skilled craftsmen assemble the bamboo strips one by one to complete the work. It is a time-consuming manual process, and it is said to take 5 to 10 years to become a full-fledged craftsman, so there is an urgent need to train young successors.
