About the Artist
Ichiro Kimura began studying with Shoji Hamada from 1935, later establishing his own kiln in 1947 in Mashiko. Alongside Hamada and Tatsuzō Shimaoka, Kimura helped shape modern Mashiko pottery. His work is noted for combining Hamada’s stylistic influence—earthy tones, kaki glaze, and iron-oxide decoration—with his own expressive brushwork. His pieces have been exhibited widely, including at the Tokyo National Museum in 1964 and in a retrospective at the Mashiko Ceramic Art Museum in 1998.
