Tokoname pottery is a type of pottery that has been produced since ancient times, mainly in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture.
In 2017, Tokoname pottery was recognized as one of the Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, along with Seto, Echizen, Tanba Tachikui, Bizen, and Shigaraki, as a Japanese Heritage Site.
Tokoname is characterized by the "yakishime" technique, in which no glaze is used.
Originally, ritual vessels were produced for aristocrats and temples and shrines, but in response to local demand, daily necessities such as tea utensils, jars and pots were also produced.
